Sean's photo notes:

I can see we both were preoccupied with the
lateness of processing and getting over the
line.

Martin's Pick - score and comments:  "Dove orchid"

Overall this month I felt your package was below your normal standard. There was no real shot that grabbed me and
modified my mood.

I guess like me, you were somewhat preoccupied with the festivities of the silly season. After much  perusing and
absorbing your vision I had to award top gong this month to Dove Orchid. There was nothing overly special about
the shot, but as a whole I found it most pleasing to the eye, as well as being a fine species example. Nice bokeh and
good contrast with the background. I would have loved for you get out that bag of strobes and cut this scene a new
one.

Other shots in order of merit:

  • Ocean Drive - Sure it's a snapshot, but it works well. Not so sure about the reflection and horizontality, but
    meh, I like it.

  • Convertabled - (whats with the "1" shiiite) Nice lighting, good contrast, good PP. Composition dos'nt do it for
    me..

  • Santas Portrait - Great grab of the bike, but the shot looks rushed and not connected with the subject. Busy
background may have been improved with different POV and shollower DOF. Could have been a winner.
    Work your models!!

  • Froggy - A bit shy was he? Would have liked a little more pop here. May be a tighter crop also. A bit dull.

  • Reach for the Sky - Tack sharp, nice light, good contrast and textures. But little wow.

  • 1942 - Good detail and contrast, but again, little interest for me.

  • Night leaves - Belongs here.

Sean's Pick - score and comments:  "Dancers"

Ok up and down the corridors of your subs for December and felt it fell a bit short of your usual intent. I guess
the change in topic late in the month threw confusion in for us which we didn’t need either.
Saying this my pick for the month was awarded to Dancers, I do appreciate the mixed lighting and layers of
action within the frame. The laser display adds interest and movement with the dancers.
The fog also looks a bit ghost like which is pretty cool. The noise throws me a bit and I wondered if this could
have been the best shot from the location?

Other shots in order of merit

  • Golf Club, I note the set up here and workable composition although not all of fireworks in frame..,
    exposure not bad either.

  • Artisans, nice candid shot of the kids in action, white balance a bit to warm perhaps.  A good plug for
master chef if they were cooking.

  • Dragonfly:  nice crop and attention on subject, not sharp as I would have hoped on the body / head,
    colours quite punchy though.

  • Tattoo, crop and processed don’t do much for me here

Painted dog and Kasplash a bit to much happy snappy for me.

Onwards and upwards for 2013!
