Sean's Pick - score and comments: Diesel 5

Ok here we go, not a bad grab this month mate, I really liked reviewing them, the standout for me is Diesel 5, it’s a cracker of a shot and one the owner
would love no doubt. I note the 1/2500 shutter has frozen him well. It looks like some off flash work to the right? In any case I dig the exposure & action in
this image.

Other shots in order of merit:

  • Albert 2, nice portrait of Albert. Liking the black background with warm lighting on his white coat. Would have liked better focus on his eyes and
more DOF but composition, expression and eye direction has  caught rather well.

  • Albert 1, looks pretty cool too, cutting corners, suspended wet dog on the lean banking into a slippery corner does create some visual tension.
    Good exposure on subject.

  • Diesel 2, would have loved you to nail the focus on this, can see your framing work - probably had a few goes at his hey. If so – you may have
been able to set a manual focus on a suitable spot and used a smaller aperture to assist here.  Good action and composition all the same.

  • Daisy, would have liked some owner interest in the frame but does sort of come together as man’s best friend loyally waiting beside master during
a boring moment. Coloured work possibly pushed into the dark range to much – I feel a little bored like the guy scrolling in the shot.

Good worky
Sean's submission notes:

All images cropped but Mouth off and Pawprinted.

Desat where seen, contrast – levels adjustments as required.

Martin's Pick  & comments:

Really like the variety this month. Two standout shots, with one
a clear winner for me.
Waterdogs, whilst it would'nt be
everones cup of tea ticks a lot of boxes and as a whole makes
for the best image. The silhouette, the lack of detail, the
bleeding make this shot work. Nice lens action to avoid flaring
too. I think a lower point of view may have enhanced this shot
though.

Other shots in order of merit:

  • Rest: Great title. Nice post work. Maybe a little lacking
in DOF and a little unsharpy, but that may have been
your intent (I cant pick the focus point). Contrast and
    framing work well.

  • Sal: Nice close up, but maybe too close as the tongue is
cropped. Colours and exposure are nice.

  • Dark Dreamer: Freaky stuff. Could have come from an
Egyptian museum or something. Nice textures and good
    use of flash here.

Other shots are good too. As I said the variety was right up
there for me. All round good submission.
