NEXT MONTH: From next month onwards we will repeat the photocomp subjects going back to the start 4 years ago!

"Irrigate"
Martin's Pick - score and comments:  "Plough This"

When you said you were struggling for submissions I was overjoyed. Thinking that I should nail Seano to the wall
this month.
It seems I may have counted my chickens with unholy haste. Again I saw the monochrome master pounding his
chest with another very worthy stack of eye candy.
There were two standout shots for me, both rimming with very pleasing colours and contrast.
My pick for this month is
Plough This. I think it was the pure composition precision that won me over,
complimented by the tack sharp detail and magnificent contrasting colours. I bet that the Argentinians never
thought that their plough blade would ever be so well presented. File, Print.

Other shots in order of merit:

  • Shelled - Terrific warmth and depth here with superb contrast to the background. Looks like you may have
diddled with the white balance to great effect.

  • Sand balls - I just like it.

  • Water Boyz - I think this scene could have so easily had more punch. Maybe the guy dragging the ski, or
    in full stroke. Nice composition.

  • Fake - Not sure of the name, but I see it far too closely cropped. Great colours and tack sharp as usual.

  • Sour Sop Ridge - It reminds me of something in the early Dr Who shows. It's creeping me out a little.
Looks a little noisy, maybe a huge crop factor.

  • High road - Nice sense of venture here, but the image dos'nt really fill my boots.

  • Escape - Nup don't like it. Bin.

A tricky, unfamiliar topic well hosed. NFQ.

Sean's photo notes:

Nice Submission bras, I was up to 12am last night
not wanting to drag the chain too much and just did
the signature and framing this morning.

I too found this month interesting with curious
research into somewhat unfamiliar territory. I
enjoyed the composition aspect (less is more) to
the topic and have a few spare too.

OK image notes

  • Water Boyz: Cropped, desat,
    brightness/contrast adjustment

  • Highroad: Cropped, desat,
    brightness/contrast adjustment

  • Escape: Cropped, levels

  • Plough this: Cropped, brightness/contrast
    adjustment

  • Fake: Cropped, levels, brightness/contrast
    adjustment

  • Shelled: colour adjustment,
    brightness/contrast adjustment

  • Sandballs: Levels, brightness/contrast
    adjustment

  • Sour Sop Ridge: desat, brightness/contrast
adjustment (actually an iPhone shot used in
planning but turned out better) Perhaps we
should include one iPhone shot per month?

Sean's Pick - score and comments:  "Sentry"

Great effort this month, I dont think I have ever given a 10/10
for “wish I took this” before.

Out of your eight shots submitted I really came back to your
image
“Sentry” as the standout image from the lot. I dig the
composition, the simpleness of the scaffolding used in a way
that is reminiscent of some weird urban cacti. The use of the
stuffed crow is outstanding too!
Cannot really flaw this shot to much bro as I like how you
have presented it.

Other shots in order of merit:

  • Outside the wire, another greatly composed shot with
good depth and superb use of light. I love the quality
of this image and the earthy warm country tones.

  • Flight, caught at precisely the right time and shutter
speed. I like the movement & direction evoked.
Possibly improved in glass out conditions but hey you’
    re not god. Nice1

  • Irrigate, Great strong form with this shot – love the
variety in your submissions. The colour contrast works
well here – perhaps a good stock image.

  • Rail, yep caught well here but not magic – I do like the
time of day choice which has your shadow creating
    nice symmetry.

  • Bubbles, interesting but my gut wants a close up of the
right hand side of the image (sorry Hutton) the stack of
bubbles is unique enough on its own for this topic.
    Good Bokeh too.

  • Radiation, Simply nice but a little to oh hum for me that’
    s why it’s down here.

  • Sailing,  probably too over worked for my liking and
again a close up of something within this image may
    have worked a bit better.

All in all though bras – Great Stuff
Martin's photo notes:

I really enjoyed this topic and found inspiration at
every turn. I have so many more keepers that I may
send on afterwards.
