Sean's Pick - score and comments: CBD
Ok Braz, I started to get worried about you late submissions as the months rolled by. Good to see you
cough them up and accordingly here is your Eval.
I quite liked the mixture of subjects this month with some pulling my attention more than others.
I had to give it to CBD for being compositionally pleasant, on topic & a nice mix of colour that pulls it
altogether. It could do with some minor straightening but ignored that.
In second poll position I had to give it to
- RETRO, I really like the lighting and composition here, the border no so much. Not sure what the
object is on the left – I assume its some sort of sci fi drinking glass but not being able to confirm only
confuses the shot for me and well that’s why its second place. I also don’t know if it is a glass
reflection or that I can see through glass at the bottom (also a bit confusing to read?) Looks good
though mate.
- Third is LEDs – mad looking array of lights which had me re looking this image over and over. I am
not sure if the circular object eyes right does much for the overall photo. Good lighting once again
though.
- Chair through Glass, interesting adaptation of lens work here, subject composition could have
been tightened to the right. I love those recycled chairs. Colours add interest.
- Back Row, a peaceful photo with good leading perspective to the alter. Not much glass interest
here for topic – but person adds to the composition very well. Looks a bit over worked with the
saturation.
- Family portrait – another interesting topic link here which is visually striking but a bit to distorted for
my liking.
- Yabby Puja, not sure what I am looking at here bras?

I trust you will score me suitably.

Martin's Pick - score and comments: Scotched
Two standouts for me this month. One which had compelling journalistic interest and the other tearing topic
relevance a new one. I chose the one that gave me the warm fuzzy feeling and went for Scotched. Whilst I
am no fan of Scotch I just imagined what was coming from the decanter was Wild Turkey and things were
just gas.
The four separate glass elements, great use of background static thingy and set atop a glass surface all
hit the mark. If I have to say anything which detracts it is the lean of the glass (naughty naughty) and a little
more DOF may have sharpened the leading edge of the glass, but you may not have wanted that. Likey.
Other images in order of merit:
- Head and Hand - Great spotting this one. Macabre. Nice frame. That rearview mirror looks a little
too intact to complete the story maybe.
- Business Hours - Hell nice exposure. The empty carpark in the reflection makes this shot work.
- Tea Fish - I guess I am having trouble working this one out. Probably my ignorance has it down
here. It may be the light which is coercing my judgement here.
- Before and After - The concept is terrific, but the result dosnt really do it for me. I guess you only
get one chance with a shot like this. Go out and get 5 more of those bottles and reshoot braaaaaz.
No need to blat on about the others. Glass guillotine is too weird
