Techno Spider

For mine, this shot is by far the best image submitted. The colours both in background and
subject really please my eyes. The spider although not really very crisp, has sufficient detail
and a tiny depth of field to really make it spring off the page. Although it has no real "OMG"
factor, it is an image that anyone should find impressive. This would probably print well in large
format too.

This is where I've got to say that I would have liked to have seen some images submitted with
a   w  i  d  e   depth of field......

Other image notes in order of merit:

  • Tex-mex - Like the concept here. Bet you would have loved a wider crop on the left hand
side (blame it on the camera view finder). What really makes this shot is the twig on right
which is also spot on focus depth. Maybe a "hotter" background colour may have
    improved it.

  • Comfort -  The name says it all. Excellent exposure and punchy detail on the textures.
    Nice.

  • dunnys – Nice post processing. The crop is annoying though. Try this one again, maybe
with a mid aperture and then work it in the darkroom.

  • Yoda's-ear – Interesting, but no cigar.

  • Profile – Very difficult to get black / white subjects sharp at open apertures. It appears
the sweet spot did not get the eye to me.... Maybe you did that on purpose? I can't really
relate to this shot. Lovely animal nonetheless.

I think it's about time we had a face to face shoot off!!! Waddaya say??

"Mirror Image"

Ok Ok this month you really kick some butt bras..

I am not sure if that is because I have accepted your week delay or because you are back in your
motherland and are re-sparked?

The other interesting thing is our interpretation of depth of field, yours long and wide - my short and
narrow - oh well at least we covered the focal range between us?

The shot that literally knocks my socks off is the abstract image you named

“Mirror Image” mate this shot really grabs me and could have worked under the umbrella of a number
of topics. Good use of something that would have inadvertently gone unnoticed and oozes creatively
with one eye on the subject.. Depth of field is expressed not so much from your hardware but from
your subject.

Ok other shots in order of merit

  • Timber vs Nature: Yep it really jumps off the screen and wallops me, Great use of the title and
both subjects can appreciated independently or as a whole. Emma’s 1st choice.

  • Black Face: Nearly picked this as my first, I think you have thrown the background out enough
to bring the eyes back onto the interesting carving? Facing me!

  • Boy with Storey: Great shot of Hutton, if only to grab some more light in that right eye, all the
same even with the darkness and expression love the use of light and use of DOF

  • Brisbane River: I do like this shot just over balance to right hand side of image bends my head
    a bit.

  • The Gabba, good job on getting high at this time of night with your kit. Good hunting.. A little
too noisy for me but 12000 odd ISO you said?

  • Boy on swing, different shot but same beautiful face. Building out from head needs more blur
to put focus back on eyes and maybe a little too slow shutter.

Great effort this month - what gear you packing these days again?
