Martin's Pick - score and comments:

Very pleasing little bunch for the month Bra. Your variety is commendable indeed. I milled over two shots to take the trophy,
both being very representing of my favourite colour - yellow. D700drnd (whats with the acronym soldier??) takes it out. Nice
composition and lighting, which I trust took a few attempts to nail - or was your assistant on a ladder? Great capture, stunning
contrast and a real gem of a self portrait. Use this shot to promote yourself and your tip top gear.

Other image notes in order of merit:

B – Standard nature shot perfectly (almost) executed. DOF is nice, light is spot on, focus on bee and target good..... What the
hell is that white mark on the foreground flower???? If it is natural, it sure dosent look like it. I would address this directly -
clone, paint, pour acid; do whatever. I still like though Bra.

Australia-Day - Bloody great shot. NFQ

Surf-it – This is an interseting shot for me. The commencement and completion of a wave is well captured, but the dang awful
colours  frustrates me. Where is the idyllic blue waters and white sand?? Dont really see the contrast.

Laned – OK. A nice little journey down a fairly interesting lane, then bugger me if there is nothing to see or do at the end..... I
would have had a dude having a lunger, or maybe an open door, or......... NFQ. Contrast is nice.

Dark-machine – Artsy shot. Would print nice in large format maybe. Not my cuppa.

Monked - Ooooh. Tough on the eyes. This shot looks exposure inverted??? Not for me once again - I realy dont like the
extremities of the toes. A little lab work on the details required.

Rescued - Hate it. Shine, colours, reflections. Bin.

Love next months topic of silhouette. This will test the composition skills. Hope you are and the gang are not too windblown.

Ok Ok here are my lot - not late considering its the 1st today and
there is a mammoth cyclone up my backside!

I had more time on my hands for this subject and I guess that is
a sign of things to come as I am feel like I am getting back into
photography all over again!

Some image notes

  • Monked: well over exposed shot - tweaked levels /
    contrast/cropped

  • D700drnd: Levels contrast only

  • Australia Day: taken on Australia Day : levels contrast only

  • B: Cropped - brightness boost/ colours

  • Laned: tweaked sign  - classic 1 point HDR'd

  • Dark Machine: heavy crop - HDR

  • Surf it: Hue adjust, levels, brightness - final crop

  • Rescued: HDR - minor levels / brightness

I threw a few more in there to stir things up / ruffle some feathers..

Martin's photo notes

OK Braaaaaz;

As usual I am first to submit.

I was a little spoilt for choice
this month, as I seemed to be
surrounded by contrasting
scenes (both natural and man
influenced) that produced
pleasing results for me - I
hope you feel the same you
bastidos. Larger images this
month.

Image notes:

BB - Cropped, curves; shot
with D lighting off, max
contrast and monochrome.

Fossils - Cropped, curves,
contrast.

Grevillea Pteridifolia -
Cropped, curves.

IT Geek - Cropped, curves,
some burning to reduce
background shine.

Peg Power - HDR, curves, red
saturation. This image is of a
place not far from us that went
completely under. I was drawn
to the complete devastation of
the shed, but the clothes were
still hung on the line. A very
eerie scene.

Wounded - Cropped, curves;
shot with D lighting off, max
contrast and monochrome.
The leg wound is genuine.....
But I added a little colour to
invite some sympathy.
Gardening is a dangerous
activity.

Love to the gang.

Sean's Pick - score and comments:  "Grevillea Pteridifolia"

Great job this month mate with a nice spread of variety that has tested you on many levels.
Firstly the image that sticks in my mind, meets the subject intent and has great impact I would say is
‘Grevillea Pteridifolia’.
I know I am a plant nut but man this shot is impressive. The use of your DOF and focal point comes together really
well as do the honey and blues colours with the glowing almost dream like quality. PRINT.
Other photos in order of merit:

  • ‘BB’ a well composed shot – with good contrast and a nice boarder – good to see your creativeness coming
out again! Colour is of an interesting hue perhaps a the relationship between both subjects a little odd – but
    bold all the same.

  • ‘Fossils’ Ok lets call this one equal second, I am no paleontologist but I know this is a model even though it is
quite believable. The textural relief and contrasting white material makes for an impressive shot.

  • IT Geek’ another well composed shot of your daughter growing up and a sign of things to come with her life
no doubt. Send this onto Toshiba – Great background too but eyes could have been more in focus..

  • ‘Wounded’ I like the sepia contrast with your blood – some facial enhancement? And lit well from the side –
smaller aperture would have improved this shot and perhaps a tighter crop or not??

  • ‘Peg Power’  This shot is a little to macabre for me mate – composition does not work that well for me either.

Leaving on a good note – great work..
