Sean's photo notes:

This month I too really enjoyed the 50mm.

I like the portability & how less obtrusive the
lens is with subjects too.

The low light capability and reduced depth
of field of F1.4 is enticing & gratifying as you
know

  • Inked, slight crop,

  • Happy, crop and some filter work

  • Port D, Desat filtered contrast added

  • Jocksta, colour boost to greens

  • Found on Australia Day, crop

  • Pineappled, Crop & sharpened

  • Illusion, Crop & contrast boost

  • Bracelets, crop and softened

  • Target, Cropped

Martin's Pick - score and comments:  "Inked"

My first impression shot never wavered however, and I feel it is the best of the bunch by a street. The more I look
at it the more I like it. I salute you. Inked it is. And no further questions. That Tattoo Artist would love this shot also.
BTW - as I got no image info specifics for this shot, I assumed it was cropped as the HV ratio is dissimilar.

Other shots in order of merit:

  • Happy - Great subject, nice composition, perfect lighting..... On any other day this would have taken the
    prize.
  • Found on Australia Day - Terrific little grab of something we wouldn't usually look twice at. Shallow DOF
gives it pop without worrying about needless detail. Slightly underexposed which I think enhances the shot
    also.
  • Jocksta - That little guy is going places! Superb shot for mum and dad who probably face this image on a
constant basis chasing after him. Great lighting and composition.
  • PortD - Some heavy process going on there. Very punchy and pops a plenty. May be my eyes, but I see it
off horizontal. (PS... Its not my eyes)
  • Hands - Great candid, DOF too shallow for mine. Maybe a couple of stops..
  • Bracelets - Challenging shot to pick your focal point, could have been on numerous points. I would have
chosen another - maybe the background hands and given a little more DOF. Nicey exposure.
  • Pineappled - They are some juicy pineapples there. I dont like your crop - shes either fully in, or out.
  • Target - Those hanging tassles really save / make this shot. Those RB guns can be deadly in the right
    hands.
  • Illusion - Cant work this out..... Hence good illusion. Could have been sharper??

Sean's Pick - score and comments:  "Life Cycle of the Aquatic Lily"

Ok mate not a bad little bunch with one clear winner in my eyes – that being “Life Cycle of the Aquatic Lily
I really like the cycle of life angle fully exploited. Not badly framed either creating further interest and
commanding attention. Print hang.

Next down the line I feel is:

  • Kane, the creative way you have stripped his face down to the bare minimum is quite cool. I am not sure
on the colour or frame but do like the idea, face grissle  texture and position of eyes. Cool.

  • Diner – I take it that this isn’t a double exposure and you have great big utensils stuck on your wall. The
harsh cross light’s shadow on wall sort of throws me off but the exposure is quite good (TTL?) Subject
attention also good - Hope B ate it all up!

  • Spikey – is a nicely focused bloom, from a bracketed shot hey? I note the spider lily colour issue to the
rear but the offset nature of the bloom and colour does contrast quite well together.

  • Rum bar, ok I do like the texture but this should have been taken under better lighting conditions, not a
bad position you framed from, a barmaid would have topped it off – two cougars sort of thing..

  • Predator, I am not sure what your obsession is with these water dragons but unless this is your pet I
seems that you are being followed around by this same creature? not bad DOF but the stump is a little
distracting. Good eye contact all the same with the subject.
