Martin's Pick - score and comments:
"Out of Here"
Not sure about the Variety criteria - I scored it
with the assumption of having variety over all of
the submitted shots. As your variety was lacking
(4 x Carnie, and 2 x clocks), I scored low
accordingly. This screwed your image score
somewhat, and I believe it was worthy of greater.
I don't disagree with the Variety criteria, but I
guess maybe the weighting could be modified to
say 0.05.... This would also roll the total
weightings up to equal 1. NFQ
Difficult choice of two images this month. In the
end I had to apply the scoring criteria to both
images and see which one came out on top.
Out Of Here did it for me by the slimmest of
margins. Firstly, this is a great shot in it's own
right. I can feel the action and excitement of the
moment nicely captured. Probably dos'nt fit the
topic ideally, but close enough. Plenty of faces
in the shot also enhances overall image. I won't
bang on about sharpness, noise etc, but simply
say well done.
Other image notes in order of merit:
- Sky Flying - Also a great capture with just
the right amount of detail. Great contrast,
nice frame, suits black and white. No
further questions.
- Go Son - Only the composition detracts
from this one with the guy behind the rider
annoying me, and the reason it was'nt in
the running. Superb exposure and depth
of field. Again plenty of faces to add
energy and emotion. Nice work.
- 8seconds - That is one brilliant clock
there braaaaz. Straight to the pool room. I
like the concept, but the off kilter hurts.
Glad you did'nt brush off the cobwebs.
- Here &There - Can't connect this with the
topic....... If the topic was "Carnies" then
that would be different. Where is the
motion???

Seans photo notes
Well have added a "Variety" weighting on the scoring spreadsheet as I
feel we need to provide merit where merit is due from month to month.
This might need some tweeking as we go.
Ok image notes:
Sky Flying: Cropped, levels- desat
Out of here: - Cropped, levels, Desat, filter
Here and there: - levels, brightness, contrast
Go Son: Cropped, levels

Sean's Pick - score and comments: "Bus Race"
Well as you said a bit flat this month - I can see you
have experimented or hoped the multiple shutter would
give you the desired result and I think you almost got
there. I didn't think to use HDR sequencing but did
actually purchase 2 strobe lights for the same reason.
Unfortunately they both are crappy and don't have
enough lumen.
I selected Bus Race primarily because (A) its
interesting & (B) It suits the topic the most. Perhaps
doing a max frame exposure would have even looked a
little better with the buses jumping out the screen!
Ok other image notes in order of merit -
- Human Fluid, yep this one actually works for me
- as you were almost onto it - just a pity about
the people being mostly in shadow!
- Twilight Zone, This technically is a nice shot -
perhaps a longer exposure would have really
turned that ferris wheel into a disc and resulted
in a better link with the topic.
- Wight - Not sure what I am looking at and a bit
un composed for my liking bras..
Martin's photo notes
Image notes:
- Wight – cropped, colours, levels.
Long exposure.
- Bus Race – cropped, levels. 3 image
HDR.
- Human fluid – cropped. 5 image
multiple exposure with auto gain.
- Twilight Zone – cropped. 5 image
HDR.
Just could’nt seem to nail the images I
had planned for…. Most of the time.
