Martin's submission notes:

OK Braaaaaz, first again;

Lack of long lens aside, I found it difficult to
get the shots I wanted. Most likely due to
the fact that I watch a lot of sport and I know
that the shots are out there waiting to be
grabbed.

Opportunities were a little thin also.

Image notes;

All cropped, curves,

  • Andrew Walker - desat

  • Ball Boy - saturation

  • Drench - desat, sharp

  • Going Long - nil

  • Grubber - contrast, warmed

  • Levitate - desat

  • Team Bond - nil

  • The Strategy - nil

Sean's Pick - score and comments:  "Drenched"

Ok Ok here we go,

Leaving things to the last minute does do one thing and makes you work harder, in your case I can literally see you
running up and down the sideline hunting for keepers.

Good to see your boy out there too these days, something that no doubt I will see more of over the years.

I must say out of all of your shots one has more impact, punch / guts and so accordingly I have to give it to
“Drenched” I don’t mind the over sharpened  nature and fringing – its sort of offset by the fast shutter splash action.
It does certainly say Sport to me as it does exhaustion. Well done  - I bet you don’t mind this one either.

Other image in order of merit.

  • Ball Boy, yep this one nearly got it, caught well with great DOF. The kids expression is a classic too as it the
quality of exposure. The other shot in my mind is still better though.

  • Grubber, Nice panning with dirty sweaty footy action on show Suitable crop – your close enough here as I love
    that mud clog mid air.

  • The Strategy, good shot of the boys with a Ginger Megs feel, Good focus and exposure composition off a bit
and perhaps better if taken at eye level.

  • Going long, not bad – background would have looked better defocused, ball caught reasonably well with good
focus on the eyes where it counts.

  • Levitate, yes you got it but you need to get closer..

  • Team bond and Andrew Walker – meh..

Martin's Pick - score and comments:  "Drive"

Tossing up this month as to how to assess - whether it be on hitting topic or image worthiness. I decided on image
worthiness as I just couldn't give the gong to the topic leader.
For me, far and away the best shot is "Drive". The composition is freaking superb (had to be a 10), the muted tones
and the subtle contrast of the ball make this a cracker. Worthy of a golfing mag. Of course it is somewhat too social
for me, hence losing some topic score.

Other shots in order of merit:

  • Targetted - Not a lot of things I can say here... Grain, timing, comp, footy shorts. Love it.

  • Goal - My choice for hitting topic the best. Plenty going on, great lens use, stinks of competition, PP works too.
Why is that Goalie just coming back from a cigarette?

  • Watch Me - Hmmmm, I'm thinking that the cropped hand was absolutely necessary? Or maybe you just didn't
get it at shutter time. Kurt and Naomi look fairly hardcore with all the gear.

  • Fatherhood - I just bloody well like this. Do a print and leave it at the Clubhouse notice board with a business
card. Gotta get me one of those lenses!!

  • Visitors - Likey. Plenty of characters to study. Gotta get me some of those sunnies.

  • Pancake - Title loses me. Nice action, curious as to what happens in the following frames. Nice light.

Others not cutting it for me.
