Sean's submission notes:

Ok felt like this month took more out of me
but really enjoyed the exploration and
challenge. All put together on windows
movie maker, music in most cases by Pierlo
and in one case by Yacht

Image notes:

  • Sky Rail, out @ 400mm - shot on
    radian for panning effect

  • Terminated, my go at a stop
animation - pretty rough but I tried to
    work that into the theme.

  • Unboxing, I have watched a few
unboxing vids on the web prior to
purchasing thought I would have a go
    with a timelapse.

  • Cable Ski, shot over an hour on the
    radian

  • Garden Trim, an experiment study
on one of our gardens undergoing a
    seasonal trim

  • Airport, climbed a mountain for this
one..Used the radian out at 200mm

  • Cloud formation, decided to leave
this experiment in for the record.
Taken on a JVC video recorder

  • Lulus, a composite timelapse using
    two cameras basically compressing a
whole event into a short video

Martin's Pick - score and comments:  "Terminated"

OK seeing is it is our first attempt at timelapse and we are still coming to grips with the concept and technical
parameters, I have based my evals purely on content and entertainment value, and will only mention tech stuff
where I think it is warranted to hopefully assist in future works.

Three videos caught my attention, due to familiarity, or effort applied, or having the left hand blinker on. For this
month I had to give the gong to Terminated. Would have loved to have been a fly on the wall when you were doing
this - it would have made for a brilliant time lapse!! You have told a very chaotic but entertaining story here. Sure its
too staccato for a stop motion, but who has 24hrs to shoot such an epic adventure? I bet you were happy with the
result once you punched it into the computer.

Other shots in order of merit:

  • Lulu's – Its an all round good capture of the event and the embedding of high res stills really works for me.
Gotta say I thought the ending was missed - it needed closure of sorts. From where you were shooting at the
time I guess that was impossible. Likey though.

  • Garden Trim - Another really good production which would have been difficult to nail an entertaining story,
but you pulled it off. Those spring rolls and chips looked soooo tasty. Good incorporation of ass shots also.
Definately would have had a shorter shutter interval here.

  • Cloud Formation - Stock standard grab nicely done. Smooth, nice exposure and interesting. NFQ

  • Unboxing - Hmmm. Tells a story, almost. Would have liked to have seen the puppy in action a little more.

  • Airport - Yup. I'd be going back there again. At night / dusk maybe for some dramatic effects?

  • Cable Ski - Just could'nt get into this no matter how I tried. I think it may be to huge pan or lack of action.
Could you get near where they load up on the cable?? I think that POV may have worked better here.

  • Sky Rail - Little interest, jerky, flat, goes too long, Nup.

I remember when we first backed the Radian and were right into it thinking it was the holy grail of cheap and easy
time lapse.... How wrong we were. There are so many technical and equipment inputs required to get good keepers.
Not to mention that a suitable location can help immensely.

Sean's Pick - score and comments:  "Mt Cootha"

Ridyo man - have been waiting to review this month for a while as I am sure it took the most out of us both this time
around.

I note in general - the cosmopolitan nature of your submissions (you get that in the big smoke) had you focused on
the experimenting with the same subject more or less over and over, but the Brunette Barbie – Stop Motion was a
nice relief, I would have liked to see you explore your options some more though. That said my pick was made on the
sequence that impressed me the most taking into account the degree of Difficulty.

As such I awarded the Gong to Mt Cootha. I love the interplay here with people and the changing in light. I can see
the ramping employed and how hard it is to balance the exposure with a Nikon under these circumstances. I love how
you changed tack towards the end and caught that moon. It paid off and is one of the reasons this placed 1st.

Other shots in order of merit:

  • Holman Street – I know was one of your first but something about the busy nature, speed and blacks in this
shot that pull my interest in and in. The fading towards the end sort of works and doesn't, the fluffy intros and
exit texts feel a little long in duration to me?

  • Queen street Mall - I like the way you come into this shot and the night life going on in the mall. The into and
exits probably are as long as the clip itself so would have liked to have seen more. Exposure nice and I like the
changing lights getting picked up on the facade .

  • Redacliff place - Similar to the previous with a cameo - better exposed but equal to Queens Street Mall I
    would say.

  • Brisbane Boardwalk- OK similar again - lower and CCW this time, not bad position, colour balance a bit to
red for me - a bit o humish..

  • Brunette Barbie - Not bad for a first attempt, I like the use of your background (on monitor presumably?) and
props - I always thought you play with dolls. Quirky and made me smile

  • Low Res Ramp - Note the test nature of this one, good location for action glad you went back and got the
    night clip there.

Good to see you employed the Radian a fair bit with the topic, I agree its harder than you think to plan these. I want
to do more of these and cant wait until I get out on a star lit night and shoot some night skys.
