Martin's Pick - score and comments
'Bridge to nowhere'
Tough choice this month for me. A Bridge to Nowhere held the most interest for me with good foreground / background mix. Lighting is excellent given the position of the sun
when the shot was taken. I would have loved to see more of the bridge on right to finish the effect. Depth of field is nice too. I am assuming this was taken somewhere
around the airport approach?? Watch out for those dodgy types talking into their collars.
Other images -
- DZ - Brilliantly stitched, cant pick any seams. And what were you standing on when you took the shot (it appears to be higher than the ute)?? I nearly chose this image
purely for the ridiculously good 180deg wide angle. If anything, a little tweak up in contrast after desat may have improved the shot.
- Surf Rescue - Really depicts well the dull lighting of NQLD in the wet. Glad you put your ass on the line braving the stingers to get the shot.
- Fountain of Youth - The more I look at this shot, the more I am trying to decipher what / where it was. By the looks of the foliage, the rock face appears to be on an
angle of say 60 degrees, which then doesn't really gel with the way the water is behaving. Reveal the secret for me.
- Wet Season - Nice colours and composition. Maybe a slower shutter could have accentuated the water flow. Still very pleasing to the eye.
- Blades - Nice shutter speed, great flowing water. Not enough interest here for me, and I am not keen on the exposure or composition. It looks as though this was
rushed at time of shutter and in the darkroom.
- Runaway - I like this shot but it frustrates me.... It just isn't wide enough to capture the feel for me. What are those little fingers on the lights for??
I can see you were light deprived this month which makes it difficult, and the trip to the airport probably didn't give you much joy. Suffer in your jocks.
I will be suffering a little next month as I only have 120mm of length, and that lens is one of Nikon's lemons.

Sean's photo notes
Ok it’s about time you received my lot, apologises for the delay – things
up here have been much of a wash out as you will see within my
submissions.
- Wet season : Brightness only – lots of tonal range made for a large
file needing to be reduced to the max to bring down to 200k
- Blades: Levels – brightness, dodged & burnt
- Bridge to nowhere: Levels / brightness
- DZ: 180deg panoramic, desat / levels / brightness
- Fountain of youth: Levels/ brightness
- Runaway: levels / brightness and a quick dash out of the road!
- Surf Rescue: Levels, reduce noise & blurred due to accidentally
having ISO @ 1600! & not realising until later

'Void'
Nice shot mate, should have some roman connection with the subject as reminds me of some sort of archaeological find! I like the depth of field here – almost feel like I am
dropping into the hole.. Why the crop?
Other Images:
- 2nd pick is Inspection nearly chose this one – really punchy and love the edge effect , colourful vest works well to keep my focus on the subject with mixed interest to
the other areas. Good shot.
- Progress: Yep again much interest in this shot – a little unstable to the eyes with no real point of interest - too much edge distortion perhaps
- Consumers – I like the level change with the wide angle and the typical girl action in the foreground with movement caught just a touch to fast. Colours pull my eyes to
the left into the hole. Old stomping ground for me and reminds me of the days of falling down those exact stairs.
- Audience: lacks contrast and where is the model on the catwalk – wasted opportunity bras!
- Wintergarden: I like the composition of this shot however a little slow for my liking - tripod or higher ISO would have assisted however I take it that you were after
movement expression here - just watch out for the other stationary items.
Good effort and variety this month & hey you took it out this month! - What no colour improvement?
See ya Anzac day m8
