NEXT MONTH: repeating photo comp subjects from 4 years ago! Subject "Monochrome"

Overall with weighting 8.68 / 10
Martin's Pick - score and comments: "Pop"
You have excelled this month with 3 very worthy shots which had me fully embarrassed when I opened them. Your
setups and composition provided for really exciting images.
I really wanted to call a dead heat between first and second, but in the interest of having a clear winner my pick for
this month goes to Pop. There is nothing really technical about this shot and it probably took a few attempts to get (I
frigging hope), but the pure split second perfect capture wins it for me. I tried and tried to get something like this and
failed miserably.
Other images in order of merit:
- Fluoro Burst: Looks like you caught this in one attempt just after the Bulb shot. Great action, nice exposure,
good background and contrast. Top bloody shot.
- Bulb: Really nice and tack sharp. DOF is spot on also. Congrats to the photographers assistant too.
- Falling Umbrellas: This shot whilst probably required to have a fast shutter capture, has a nice feel and a real
sense of falling objects. Great colours and contrast.
- Exploding Egg: Great arty image. Would have loved to see how that sucker came to grief. Very Pollock.
- Stacked it: Interesting, but it dos'nt really work for me. Maybe if you had have chucked an egg in there....?
Sean's photo notes:
Ok First for the month like usual.
Image notes: all with level,
brightness, contrast adjustments all
cropped too
- Exploding egg 1/5000 Sec,

Sean's Pick - score and comments: "Alchemy"
Ok Man – After opening up your shots I wondered why you led me down the path of my pending scrutiny –
as this month I really was impressed with the technical and visual delight of at least 3 of your images..
Then I examined your camera settings and found that the shots I liked the most were dog slow in relation to
this month’s topic “Fast Shutter”? I assume this is what you are referring too.
Although I can hand hold 1/60th sec at most ranges which suggests its reasonably fast – I would consider
upward of 1/500th on topic – considering you can take 1/8000th with your gear?
Therefore I assume you got mixed up in experimentation with your Strobist books I got you and forgot the
end state of your mission!
So what am I to eval – northward of the 1/500 or the best shot you have submitted – see my quandary
bras..
Rideoy I am going to say best shot and for this month its gotta go to Alchemy – purely because its
probably the most punchiest image technically pleasing and mysterious.
I wondered if you introduced a second light on your face or coloured in post – you mention colour
adjustment? I am a little disappointed in the speed but impressed with the image.
Other images in order of merit:
- Full moon: I wondered if this image should have been rotated 180˚ - I too like the exposure (like the
previous) and yes you have captured nicely the bubbles effectively freezing movement – sharp as a
tack too! 1/60 at F22?
- Blend: a lot like full moon – good use of colour and light – good focus - also slow
- Release: here because it looks like a warm up shot for something you were planning. again 1/1600
indeed on topic just not as much punch as the others
- Popped Rice: Thought of filling a ballon with confetti so good to see we are on the same wavelength
again 1/1600 indeed on topic just not as much punch as the others
Martin's photo notes:
Ok Ok....... I am ready for the hammer.
Image notes:
All images cropped
- Alchemy - strobe, colours
- Blend - strobe, colours, sharpened
- Full Moon - strobe, saturation, hue
- Release - contrast, sharpened
Fuuuuuxake!! I could not get the shots I was
chasing. NFQ
