NEXT MONTH: repeating photo comp subjects from 4 years ago! Subject "Fast Shutter"

Overall with weighting 8.28 / 10
Sean's Pick - score and comments: "Mummy"
Ok I must say well done this month mate, I can see you are getting into it all over again which is fantastic!
I really enjoyed reviewing your photos this month and was impressed with your creative side coming out more &
more these days.
My pick for the month was Mummy, I really like this effect of the parallel lines moving over themselves, the use of the
mirror is excellent too, composition & exposure nicely put together too.
Sure gets me thinking of getting me a light rope to play with too!
Other photos in order of merit IMO
- Crisis, great title and props, the shiny thing on the wall is a little distracting, perhaps a crop to the right could
have happened. Good use of laptop light balanced well with useable ambient too.
- Arrival, did you drive that car? I guess not considering your shutter limits, cool creative intent if a little higher
would may have improved DOF
- The flash, same background of arrival but I did laugh when I opened this one up. Marty the naked superhero
to the rescue! Nicely exposed background perhaps would have liked you strobing down the road. Get that
remote!
- Street party, man you could have really worked this crowd rather than the candid considering how much is
going on. People, golf buggies, sparklers – this shot had everything there to use. Oh well not bad just not
worked..
- Tangled, I reckon you should have moved out of this room and actually rolled around on the ground with this
light rope anaconda mate, that would have really impressed me. Good shot the Mummy one suits me better
and you look a little scary too!
Martin's photo notes:
Braaaaaz - First yet again...
I think I got very anal about what types of
images I wanted this month, and when they
were'nt working I was getting very frustrated.
Most of the time it was due to the bloody
models.... So I decided that I would be the
main human player in my bunch (the
average human just can't comprehend the
science behind the long exposure).
Had to include a couple of rope light
shots......
Image notes:
- Arrival - colours and cropped
- Crisis - contrast and cropped
- Mummy - curves, sharpened and

- Street Party - curves, saturated and

- Tangled - colours and cropped
- The Flash - curves, sharpened and

Martin's Pick - score and comments: "Hong Konged"
To be brutally honest, I was somewhat disappointed with your showing this month. Of your shots, I could
only pick four that hit topic of long exposure and had some interest.... I was looking for at least a five
second shutter.
My pick for the month was Hong Konged. This shot has terrific balance and is nicely exposed with good
contrast. It has enough topic value (only just), but it by far the most pleasing to the eye with an exotic
appeal. Maybe a lens correction would improve this to get the overpowering verticals perpendicular.
Other photos in order of merit:
- Bedroom Ufo - The shot is well exposed and has a nice balance to it. Good use of the wide angle
here. Lacking a little kapowee though.
- Terminator Battlefield - I like the shot..... But I think it could have been reproduced without a long
exposure also. I am ussuming that the ground lighting moves made the need for a lengthy shutter
- Plasmaed - Only four seconds, but any longer may have detracted from the shot. This shot
probably has the best wow factor, but because it did'nt quite hit topic it falls here.
- Multiple Me - Nicely exposed background, but your ghosting is much too removed from the shot.
Great "Wheres Wally?" but below your par.
- Waterfall - nice creamy water and terrific overall shot...... But 1/2 a second?? If you had your
aperture closed, you would probably have stretched it out to about five seconds, but your model
may have caused trouble.
- Washing - Nice shot, wrong month.
I am soooo loking forward to your next submissions for Fast Shutter.
Sean's photo notes:
Ok almost 24hrs after your submission here is
mine, sorry for the delay but I have been tired of
being first to submit all the time bud.
This month I had our Asia trip within which made it
challenging to plan shoots. The ones I did whilst on
holidays although are not real long exposures due
to them being daylight – but hey did test me out
which is what this is all about. I hope I made up for
it with the ones I did at home?
