Martin's photo notes:

Ok Braaaaz.

I could have killed for a second strobe
this month. Wasn't happy with many of
my ideas so they hit the bin.

Sean's Pick - score and comments:  "East Meets West"

Ridey “O” ol boy – looking at your Meta data I noticed your camera date is out by a month, that is unless you are
submitting old shots? Huh huh sniff sniff???

There is certainly lots going on in your city that I miss up here that I envy. Saying this I see you covered off most your
entries in the one busy night – with loads of artificial light exploited in your style – leaving your shots to the last
minute??.

Having to pick a stand out this month out of your submissions I would  have to say East meets West is my choice as I
like the disharmony that comes together and Ferris wheel motion rather well caught while landing a rather dark
elsewhere exposure.

The composition works – it looks like you were using the tree to obscure something perhaps but I like it.
Other photos in order of merit

  • Flare,  A nice creative shot with rhythm and good contrast, I love the aperture flares and play with black and
    whites.

  • Lanterns,  this one almost was second but feels like you cut the bum off the photo to me – adversely affecting
the composition to my liking? – I see that Ferris wheel back there and note the faster shutter. I do like the
    exposure too.

  • Phophet, its up here as it is better than the last two, the deer in the lights type of shot creeps me out a little,
the blackness under the eyes and hot spot on the forehead although not over exposed well has me not
convinced yet, perhaps if the face was centered in the frame it might look better balanced?

  • Mobile barista, down here as I am not getting much out of this shot, the emptiness to one side and bold
punchy colour – man just not sure..

  • Lasers – I am sure there was much to see this night – that looks like a bowl of fruit salad out there on the bank,
not exactly sharp and a bit to much colour and too busy for me so down here at the bottom.

Martin's Pick - score and comments:  "Three"

Simple stuff again this month. No doubt in my mind that the shot which both hits topic and is eye candy is Three.
Nothing flash (pardon the pun), but extremely well executed.

The differing lighting setups of the three shots make this sing - without some variance it would be shiiiiite. I would
have liked a looser crop to give my eyes somewhere to explore however. Even some more "exotic" foliage which I
am sure you must have acres of? No adjustments I see.... Nicey

Other shots in order of merit:

  • Dark Flower: Well executed once again, with good even light and nice colour. Technically sound, artistically
drab. I see some funny business on the bottom. Was this supposed to be a frame?

  • My New Stubbie Cooler: Why do you use underscores??? I bet this took some effort to nail, but nail it you
did. Hang it behind your bar.

  • Tron: I likey the colours and exposure, but not so much the lack of mood. What, are you reading a book or
    something?

  • Spidey: Hmmmmm. Dunno. I guess its just not grabbing me like it should. Lack of sharpness maybe.

  • Great Aussie Dream: I'm sure theres a perfectly sensible story behind this..... I see a 3 bedroom house on
500m2 with a person at the dining room table and a beat up Corolla in the driveway. Can I see some painting
to the road after the car passed also.

Too many shots of Flora, and Rope Lights.... NFFQ
